Working towards where you want to go based on where you’re at now. Moving forwards into shaping your future.
Working through past patterns or events that keep you feeling stuck. Looking at how the past affects your present.
Why I offer both coaching & counselling
Depending on what you want to work on, you may wish to focus solely on one or the other in our work together.
With that said, there are times when clients come in for coaching but then face obstacles deeply rooted in their past. There are also times when clients come in solely for counselling and recognize that they have extra capacity for dreaming bigger into the future.
The two can often go hand in hand which is why I offer both services, with room for flexibility to explore all past, present, and future if you desire.
“Ji-Youn helped me finally let go of the shame in having mental illness and learning disability. She also taught me how to welcome my emotions as a way to talk to my body and acknowledge that all emotions are valid and important to experience. In moments of incredible stress, coaching equipped me with tools to create a workable action plan with realistic actionables that direct my energy in an efficient manner.”
How it works
1. Schedule a call
In a free initial consultation, you get a sense of my style and I get an understanding of your circumstances & needs.
2. Start sessions
Whether it’s a one-off or ongoing, we create a safe container for you to feel the feelings and create new awarenesses.
3. Embody new possibilities
You integrate what you take away from our session(s) into the rest of your life and make self-empowered, tangible changes.
Self-care isn’t just about “treating yourself.”
Self-care is self-preservation.
Self-care is rejuvenation.
Self-care is optimization.
As a coach and/or counsellor, I am neither the expert nor the strategist. I do not have all the answers, and in fact, I believe that you have the answers within you. My role as a coach/counsellor is to be the guide in helping you dig up awarenesses and shine light on new choices so that you can learn to empower yourself. And even then, we don’t always have to be ‘productive’. I ask that you show up exactly as you are, whether you’re feeling determined, heartbroken, overwhelmed, frantic or tender.
My intention is to be the guide that is non-judgmental, curious, and empathetic. My philosophy aims for wholeness over happiness and so I encourage the full range of emotions and experiences, without labeling anything as good or bad. With that said, I am happy and able to support any philosophy you come in with and desire since I’m not the one in the driver’s seat - you are.
Some elements I often integrate in my practice are:
Somatic Therapy for releasing trapped emotions or past traumatic experiences in the body
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for dealing with painful emotions and managing relationship conflicts
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for navigating unhelpful beliefs or thoughts
Anti-Oppression Lens for exploring the impact of larger systemic issues on an individual
My current areas of practice include:
Managing and befriending uncomfortable emotions
Improving communication and relationships
Moving through and releasing past traumas
Preventing burnout and creating a balanced life
Exploring purpose, meaning and spiritual beliefs
Maintaining self in a systemically oppressive world

“I don’t know if I could’ve made it this far without coaching. For the first time in three years, I finally feel free – free from my past stresses and troubles. I am immensely thankful and blessed to have worked with Ji-Youn as my coach in the last 2 years.”
